Outside of his professional pursuits with Laidlaw & Company, James “Jim” Ahern is a passionate fan of the National Football League’s (NFL) New England Patriots.

The Patriots finished the 2017 regular season with a win-loss record of 13-3 and produced the second-most points in the league. While quarterback Tom Brady was instrumental in leading the team’s offense, it also received a significant contribution from running back Dion Lewis, who finished the year as the team’s leading rusher with a career-best 896 yards to go along with six touchdowns. He also had 214 yards receiving on 32 receptions, three of which were touchdowns.

Beyond the impressive individual statistics, Lewis became only the third Patriot ever to win both a Special Teams Player and Offensive Player of the Week award. The 27-year-old native of Brooklyn, New York earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance returning kicks during the team’s 41-16 win over the Denver Broncos on November 12. Six weeks later, he earned AFC Offensive Player of the Week after taking advantage of injuries to fellow New England running backs James White and Rex Burkhead to play in 51 snaps and record a career-high 129 rushing yards and 24 receiving yards. He also scored a rushing and receiving touchdown. Julian Edelman and Doug Flutie are the only other two Patriots to win both awards.
