A former managing director with Aegis Capital, James “Jimmy” Ahern serves as head of capital markets with Laidlaw & Company, where he raises capital for and advises public and private companies in the healthcare sector. Outside of his responsibilities with Laidlaw & Company, James “Jim” Ahern is an avid fan of the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) Boston Celtics.

Through its first 44 games of the 2017-18 season, the Celtics sat atop the Eastern Conference with a win-loss record of 34-10 behind the impressive play of point guard Kyrie Irving and a strong team defense that had allowed only 101.8 points per 100 possessions, which was its best mark since the 2011-12 season. Another reason for Boston’s strong play has been the performance of rookie Jayson Tatum.

Selected third overall by the Celtics in the 2017 NBA Draft, Tatum has averaged 13.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.0 steals per game this season. The Duke University alumnus was named NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for December after averaging 14.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game through 17 contests. He also topped all rookies with 59 made free throws in the month and finished top four among all first-year players in free-throw percentage (81.9), field goal percentage (52.9), and three-point field goal percentage (45.1). He recorded 20 points in games against the Washington Wizards and San Antonio Spurs and reached double-digit totals in rebounds in games against the Dallas Mavericks, Chicago Bulls, and Memphis Grizzlies.
